One of the best things I have loved about myself was the ability to bring a smile to anyone who had welcomed me with the same. This attribute might have gifted to me in the God I trust in or the scientific explanation of having inherited it from my loving parents. Either ways, all i knew was that it was difficult for me to hate someone or something. To be with people, make them happy and just experience the warmth and inner joy what this affection can offer, is something I would love doing all my life.

Travelling all the way from India to Ireland at young age of 18 to live a life all by myself was not easy. Never before till then, have I stayed away from a familiar social circle. New friends, new people, a place where even the gloomy days made my homesickness worse was all part of that stage in life where I was learning to be independent. There was no-one there to listen to the sorrows but there were many to join those little moments of happiness which kept me going. The people who I had met along this independent journey were amazing human beings and they still are part of my life. Though these people have kept me happy along these years, the inner me feels the happiest when a random stranger makes me smile. It just shows that the world full of love which I have been looking for was all the time beside me.I have lost count of the number of times, I have relied on a baby’s smile or a stranger’s friendly gesture to make me forget about the slightest bit of unwanted tension I have from time to time.

I have heard a friend of mine, while he was drunk was praising my ability of not being shy to start a conversation. His statement was very random but it made me think about why he made this a big deal. I am predominantly a shy person. All that memories from early teenage was all about the laid back attitude and I am pretty amazed myself to see how much I have changed over time to be that outgoing, happy and confident person who I am now. It was the people around me that had changed me and not myself. For every stage in life there were people to make sure that we did adapt to behave for the age we in. Now I realize that I am also part of some individual’s life which makes me more cautious about way I behave. I am not that person who says “Why should I care? I don’t even know him”. If I have any regrets in life, it was when I tried to be that irresponsible person with a don’t care attitude.

By writing this article, I have just given myself proof that I have some hidden sorrow which I am not aware of. I am 24 years old now and to be honest, I am now tired of being the same person over and over again. My life looks the same everyday even though the people and the places change. Whatever I put a start to, ends nowhere and I feel lost. Don’t know if I am making the same mistakes again or doing things right every single time. Every person has a stage in life when he questions himself. I am not looking for any words of encouragement. Hope in due time, it all makes sense.

The country may be in wind-down mode for Christmas but it was not evident on Dublin’s Henry Street yesterday as last-minute shoppers milled around and traders tried loudly to convince them of their need for One Direction merchandise.

The overall message from retailers in the run-up to Christmas was a positive one. Retail Ireland director Stephen Lynam said its members had experienced trade similar to or better than last year.

“And last year was better than the year before that – if you remember, everybody was snowed in two years ago – so, if our reality matches the optimism out there among retailers, this year is shaping up to be the best Christmas in several years,” he said, adding that the increase was most pronounced in Dublin.

However, he said retail sales would probably not reach Celtic Tiger levels again, adding that sales overall were down 25 per cent on the boom: “The days of walking down Henry Street where you couldn’t move, those days are over.”

At least part of the increase in trade in Dublin was a result of people travelling from Belfast due to a favourable exchange rate and unrest caused by protests following the city council’s decision to limit the flying of the United Kingdom’s flag at City Hall.

Glyn Roberts, chief executive of the Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association, said there was “no doubt the protests had resulted in less trade being done” in Belfast, adding that many people had consequently either bought online or gone to out-of-town outlets or to the Republic to shop.

“It’s been a bad end to a bad year – many retailers were hoping for a good Christmas but in Belfast, for many, that obviously wasn’t the case,” he said.

On Henry Street, last-minute shoppers had helped boost retailers’ trade. Sharon Mohan, operations manager at Arnotts, said Christmas momentum had built significantly last week.

“As usual the trend this weekend has been a huge number of men in buying in our beauty, jewellery and accessory departments. Business has been difficult this year, but we have seen an increase in business this week on the same period last year and we’re happy with how we’ve ended up,” she said.

However, a sample of traders operating on Henry Street said trade was down: “You wouldn’t be able to walk up that road any other year,” one woman said.

Shopper Lorna Tracey from Dublin said she felt this Christmas was busier than previous years: “It was actually difficult to walk on the streets last week, it was that busy,” she said.

Her daughter Emma, however, was not in the mood to chat: “We have to go and buy a pair of red sparkly shoes,” she insisted with some urgency, proving that at least one person was definitely in the mood for shopping.

Production

Development:

In July 2010, sources reported that Vijay and A. R. Murugadoss would collaborate to make an action film, after completing their respective ongoing projects, Velayudham and 7aum Arivu. Vijay’s father S. A. Chandrasekhar was to produce the film initially, before Kalaipuli S. Thanu took over the project. Although Maalai Nerathu Mazhaithuli was considered as the title initially, the film became titled as Thuppakki. National Film Award winners A. Sreekar Prasad, Thotta Tharani, who was making a comeback to Tamil films after a three-years hiatus, and Santhosh Sivan were roped in for editing, art direction and cinematography, respectively; all of whom worked on an A. R. Murugadoss film for the first time.

Casting

Deepika Padukone was first reported to essay the female lead. Subsequently several actresses, including Bollywood actresses Sonam Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, who later clarified that she was never approached for the film, Priya Anand, who played the female lead in Vaamanan, Pranitha and Kingfisher Calendar model Angela Jonsson were rumoured to play the role, with the latter even taking part in a brief photo shoot in Chennai. Kajal Aggarwal was eventually confirmed, Akshara Gowda was cast to play the second female lead. Gautham Kurup was chosen to play a significant role, while Vidyut Jamwal, who was simultaneously shooting for Ajith Kumar’s Billa II, would be playing a role with negative shades. Sathyan, following several collaborations with Vijay, confirmed that he was part of this project, too. Further Malayalam actor Jayaram also confirmed his presence in this project. Murugadoss denied reports which claimed that Jai was acting in the film, while confirming that he himself would appear in a cameo role. Sarath Kumar was rumoured to be acting in the film, however the actor denied the reports.

Filming

According to early reports, filming was to commence at Thiruchendur and continue in Mumbai. Supposed to start on November 26, 2011, it began on 5 December in Mumbai. Vijay would appear in a completely different with a different hairstyle as well as a facial makeover. The first schedule that lasted for 35 days was completed by January 2012. The climax featuring a stunt sequence involving Vijay and 60 fighters was shot using nearly 7 cameras towards the end of January. At Linking Road in Bandra, Mumbai, Vijay acted and operated the camera himself for one scene with cinematographer Santosh Sivan’s assistance, which had to be taken quickly with the unaware public. Sivan commented that it was shot perfectly and decided to retain it in the film. Sivan further told that a major part of the film was being shot in real locations with hidden cameras. He did not use the usual 35 MM camera to shoot the film, but was said to have exploited the latest Arri digital technology that was introduced in 2011, becoming one of the first persons in the world to make use of the technology.

In March, the unit completed a 10 day shoot in Bangkok for a song sequence featuring Vijay and Kajal. The second schedule started on April 12 in Mumbai. The third schedule was wrapped up in May 2012, following which only two songs were remaining, both of which had been scheduled to be shot in Thailand. Vijay met with a minor accident during the shoot and hurt his knee. The shooting was stalled following the incident and the actor left to London to undergo treatment. The team then moved on to Pune for canning three songs. One of the songs was shot atop of a train, constructed by art director Sunil Babu. The dance sequence, choreographed by Shobi, was shot in the Mumbai Pune Expressway. The crew then left for Switzerland to shoot a romantic number on Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal at various locations. The final song shoot took place at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, with which the entire filming was wrapped up.

Controversies

Thuppakki’s first look poster, depicting Vijay holding a cigar in his mouth, created a stir, since the Government of India had imposed a rule that later films should not feature scenes relating to tobacco or smoking. Director Murugadoss however defended the poster, saying that it was only for promotional purposes and that the film had no such scenes.

A city court stayed advertisements of Thuppakki, on a civil suit filed by a former assistant director who has claimed that he had already registered a title Kalla Thuppakki along with the logo now being used in the Thuppakki’s advertisements. The II assistant judge of the city civil court granted stay till July 16 after C Ravi, an assistant director-turned producer, complained that though he has registered a title Kalla Thuppakki and has been renewing it every year since 2009, the producers of the had been using a similar title and a gun logo infringing on his rights. Noting that he had renewed the title last on April 27, Ravi said that as per norms a title registered with any of the three bodies; Tamil Film Producers Council, the Film and Television Producers Guild of South India and the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, cannot be used by another producer unless the original title-holder issues a no-objection certificate. Kalaipuli S Dhanu filed a counter affidavit denying the accusations made against them and said that Thuppakki and Kallathuppakki are not the same and the comparison should not be drawn between the titles. “Thuppakki means a licensed weapon and Kallathuppakki means an unlicensed weapon,” he pleaded. The case eventually came to an end on October 5, when the crew of Kalla Thuppaki withdrew the court case.

Another promotional poster, which depicted a police-uniform clad Vijay carrying Kajal Aggarwal on his hands was claimed to have been lifted from a poster of the 1982 film An Officer and a Gentleman which depicted its lead, actor Richard Gere lifting actress Debra Winger. Murugadoss claimed that Thuppaki did not have an army backdrop like Gere’s film but was set in Mumbai instead, going on to assert that everything in his film was original. He however admitted to “stealing” the poster of An Officer and a Gentleman, and stated, “Sometimes, you admire something so much that sub-consciously it becomes a part of your work.”

Marketing

Murugadoss approached a leading Mumbai-based trailer specialist for the first official teaser for Thuppakki. The makers confirmed that it would be released on 22 June coinciding with Vijay’s birthday. However, Murugadoss announced that the teaser is to be released on July 1, ten days later. Upon progression, the teaser and poster launch event got delayed following an injunction order from the court, which has directed the makers of the film not to use the Thuppakki title in any form.
The first teaser of Thuppakki, eventually released on 10 October 2012,The teaser of “Google Google” song was uploaded on 22 October 2012 receiving positive response from viewers. The theatrical trailer was released on October 26 and got an overwhelming response as well, fetching over 600,000 hits on YouTube and over 7,000 likes in just three days.

Soundtrack:

Harris Jayaraj composed the soundtrack, teaming up with A. R. Murugadoss for the third time. The soundtrack album consist of 7 tracks. The lyrics were written by Na. Muthukumar, Vivega and Madhan Karky, who had written over 35 pallavis for one of the songs. Reports stating that Senegalese American R&B singer Akon would sing the title song of the film were dismissed later. The audio launch event took place on October 11, 2012. Vijay, 7 years after his last attempt at playback singing, and Andrea Jeremiah lent their voices for track titled Google Google, a party number, in the film.
The album received generally good reviews. Sify wrote: “Overall, it is a classy and refreshing album”. Pavithra Srinivasan of Rediff claimed that the music had “nothing new to offer” and that “except Google Google and the mildly melodious Poi Varavaa, the rest are all oft-heard, and seem a mish-mash of his (Jayaraj’s) earlier tunes. Top10cinema stated that each of the songs was “bursting out like a cannon shot”. Behindwoods gave 3.5 out of 5 stars and mentioned: “Overall it’s a good album with tracks that you can trust Vijay to add a lot of weight to with his dancing skills”. Indiaglitz gave a 3.5 out of 5 star rating but cited: “Lots of ammo getting packed, but needs to fire better”.

This trip was in the making since last year(2011). By then, I had not enough savings to make this trip as The MBA programme was one heck of a cash drain. When I was financially having a rough patch during the month of February, I thought I would have to give up on the idea of travelling to Ibiza.

But there was light at the end of the tunnel when everything started favouring my late surge for an oppurtunity to save and hence the move began to make sure this trip was possible during the summer of 2012. The flight tickets were bought in February and the hotel reservations and medical insurance were purchased within the next two months.

Everything was going fine up until I hit the ditch regarding the VISA procedures to Spain. Schengen Visa is the one required to visit Spain as it is a member of the Schengen Countries. It requires the individual to have 3 months left on his Irish Visa from the date of travel. If it does not meet this criteria, the Spanish authorities would not even accept my application and i had only 2 months left due to the odd timing of when non-EU students usually extend their Visa annually on September. Plan B had to come quickly and after luckily extending my visa 2 months before Expiry (lucky me, it rarely happens), I was finally set to apply for my Schengen Visa and when the result came, I was delighted to know that Ibiza was only 2 weeks away from me.

Penny’s helped me with my required summer-clothes shopping without breaking the bank too much and I have to say, they had a decent selection. Why spent a fortune on clothes you would not use after the holidays!! At this stage after securing night club tickets for some of the clubs, I can’t wait to be on that flight with my mates Pawel & Natalia. Late news about meeting another friend of ours in Ibiza was just the icing on the cake.

Production

“In 2010 September, when I was reading a short story written by M.J.Akbar, the second page of the short story hooked me on a thought which started following me ever since then. I wanted to do a love story for my second film and the characters Vinod and Aisha caught their places in my mind. When I went to Prague [I think in November 2010], I carried them along with me. Before even finishing the scene order of the screenplay, I wrote the first scene there. It is scene no: 19 of my final draft where Vinod is proposing to Aisha. When I wrote it, I felt his state of mind, I felt his breath, I visualized Aisha trembling with fear. 16 months later, I actually saw whatever I felt back then. Nivin was Vinod, Isha was Aisha and I was making the film I had carried for a long time –Thattathin Marayathu.

Mind blowing trip is what I had when I was making this film. I had a cinematographer who stood by me like my right hand, Jomon T John, who gave me his infinite support to do everything possible to spread romance in every frame. I had the best crew ever working with me. We had our back ground scores ready before shooting certain pivotal scenes. We shot a handful of songs without a dance master, we shot struggles and fights without a stunt director. We shot through the length and breadth of Thalassery trying to capture the essence of this beautiful small town. We all really had a blast.”

—Vineeth Sreenivasan about the film.

Thattathin Marayathu is Vineeth Sreenivasan’s second directorial venture, who made a successful his debut with Malarvaadi Arts Club . Thattathin Marayathu is being produced by his father Sreenivasan ’s production house Lumiere Films. Costumes are designed by Sameera Saneesh, Art by Ajay Mangad, Social Media promoter-Mohammed Abdul Kalam (kalam kalamz) and Make up done by Hassan Vandoor.

Casting

Nivin Pauly , Aju Varghese , Bhagath Manuel were cast once again to work with Vineeth Sreenivasan due to their friendship, while Isha Talwar was introduced by the cameraman Jomon T. John and was selected. Isha Talwar took a four month voice training class and went through a course to learn Malayalam to ensure her debut was smooth. Ahmed Siddique was chosen to play a very similar character like the one he played in the film Salt N’ Pepper as K. T. Mirash, Although the differences are he plays a typical Muslim guy with an impeccable Thalassery accent. Sunny Wayne who played a notable role inSecond Show is playing a significant role in this film. Many of the new actors where chosen by an audition.

Filming

The film began its shooting in April 2012 at Thalassery and Kannur . Jomon T. John is the director of photography; he had recently showed his talent in films such as Chappa Kurishu which had Vineeth Sreenivasan playing one of the lead roles and Beautiful which starred Jayasurya .

Marketing

The tagline of the film goes ‘Ummachikuttiye Premicha Nayarude Katha’. (the story of a Hindu Nair boy who loved a Muslim girl)

Internet based marketing promotion is widely based in this film, which is a first time for a malayalam movie. This films campaign through facebook created great expectation amoung the viewers and it became viral hit.

Release and Reception

The film released on July 6 2012 and met with positive reviews from both the critics and the audience.

Malayalamnet.in gave a positive review and their all time best rating of 3.5 / 5 and said that Thattathin Marayathu is a simple work with some brilliant performance and takings which makes the movie something which is best.

Metromatinee.com said that the film is a lovable movie and got all praise for Vineeth’s execution.

Theaterbalcony.com given a 3.5 / 5 rating and concluded that “Vineeth and the team gifted us a beautiful Poem of Love, and we just can’t miss this for the theme, the dialogues, the performance, and above everything the feel of love it is offering.”

Sify.com too all impressed with the film, and gave a verdict of Very Good, and termed as a don’t miss one.

Veeyen of Nowrunning.com gave a negative review with 2.4 / 5 and criticised that film does’t have a credible story line.

Soundtrack

The film’s score and soundtrack are composed by Shaan Rahman who previously associated with Vineeth Sreenivasan in Malarvady Arts Club. The audio release of the film was held on 8 June 2012. Actor Mammootty and his son Dulquer Salmaan released the audio by handing over the CD to Mathrubhumi director (marketing and electronics media) M. V. Shreyams Kumar. The audio is published by Mathrubhumi Musics and Sathyam Audios.

But it is incidents like this which makes me more disturbed.

Even with so many jobs around which may not be necessarily “white collared”, I cannot understand why anybody won’t get their hands dirty atleast temporarily, till the economy becomes better. its far better than being a burden to the economy by using up the social benefits. one might argue, that its about time the government took care of them after having paid all those taxes over the years when they were employed.

Just dust off your ego and be a part of the minor community who has some concern to bring their homeland’s economy back in shape, so that their children don’t get the notion that money comes from heaven and that there is hard work behind that valuable piece of paper.

Nothing spoils a good workout like shin splints, check out below on how to prevent them.

What are Shin Splints?

Shin splints is a generic term for pain at the front of the lower leg. The pain can occur at the front and inside of the shin bone(tibia). The most common form of shin splints is medial tibial traction periostitis, which is when the muscle attachments at the bone are pulled, causing irritation and pain, doesnt sound very nice does it… The tibia can also be stressed from heavy loading, which can lead to a stress reaction and may result in a stress fracture.

What causes them?

Shin splints occur for many reasons, but are generally a result of biomechanical factors or poor training. For example, your foot may have increased pronation(flat feet) or supination (high arch), be stiff at the ankle joint when it strikes the ground or you may have stiff ankles. You may also have tight or weak muscles in your lower leg. Some runners have a heavy heel strike that can then cause increased stress on the muscles at the front or inside of the lower leg, causing overuse. Increasing your training too quickly, or running on hard surfaces such as concrete are also contributing factors.

How can you avoid them?

The chance of getting shin pain can be reduced by following some simple measures, Make sure your trainers are suitable for your foot type and that they provide adequate shock absorption. When running outdoors mix up the surfaces so you’re not always on road or pavement – vary with grass, gravel or mud rrack. When increasing your distance, do so gradually, and refrain from upping your distance by more than 10 percent a week. Stretching your lower leg muscles – calves and the inside and front of the shin can also help.

How can you treat them?

Treatment for shin splints should initally involve symptoms relief. For example, rest and ice in the early or acute stages, and heat in the chronic stage may help. Stretching can be incorporated for the lower leg muscles, and a poditary review can examine your biomechanics and prescribe orthosis (such as an insole support) if required. Taping can reduce further load and take stress off your lower legs.

Standing Anterior Tibialis Shin Stretch

This stretch is for the anterior tibialis muscle on the front of your lower leg. Its action is to flex the foot upwards. This muscle mostly gets a workout in running, walking, and sports like tennis which have a lot of little sprints. This is also called the “toe drag stretch”.

Shin Stretch

Standing, you may want to use a hand on a wall or other support for balance.

Place the foot to be stretched just behind your other foot (which remains squarely on the ground), with the toe of the stretching foot touching the ground.

Keeping your toe firmly on the ground, pull the stretching leg forward so you feel a stretch from the top of your stretching foot through your shins. It often helps to bend both knees slightly.

Once you feel a good stretch, hold it for 15-30 seconds.

Repeat with the other foot.

How long do they take to heal?

This depends on the severity of the injury and the specific problem. A stress fracture may take six to eight weeks to heal, while a minor muscle overload may take less time. The time can flucuate depending on your rehabilitation; if you push on too soon, you can irritate your injury and prolong the healing time. Review with your physiotherapist, podiatrist or sports physician if you do suffer from shin pain, so you can get the appropriate diagnosis, management and treatment plan.

Will certain running surfaces make them worse?

Running on hard surfaces, such as concrete, can aggrevate shin pain, and if you already suffer from this you can certainly increase your discomfort and make your condition more chronic.

Just came across this singer and so far her music has impressed me. All her songs in her new album “Before the Dinosaurs” are kinda good. Her Biography from her website is:

“I want to make the impossible possible….Even before breakfast!”

Aura Dione is a musical talent with Danish, Spanish, French and Faroese roots. Her voice and music mirror the qualities of the forbidden fruit: once consumed, you’re blissfully surrendered.

Aura’s latest album, ”Before the Dinosaurs” exemplifies her distinctive performance style as she plays with the senses, telling stories and painting pictures with her voice and melodies. Her world is a modern day fairy tale with the spirit of Pocahontas and the adventures of Huck Finn.

With her 2009 debut album, “Columbine”, Aura demonstrated her talent as a phenomenal singer/songwriter and lyricist, reaching the top of the charts across Europe. The Gold and Platinum awarded No.1 Hit, ”I will love you Monday” was the world’s first glimpse into her gift for striking a chord in the hearts of audiences.

Aura challenges the convention with a mixture of folk and electro elements, integrating progressive drums, strings and pop music in a formula for success to which this beautiful girl from Copenhagen stays true.

With her second album, “Before The Dinosaurs“, Aura created a colourful selection of pop gems in a thousand and one colours – revealing her own pure and hypnotizing “Aura” and her talent for giving everything around her unique meaning without distracting from her own vision.

An artist in the purest sense, Aura oversees every aspect of her work from the music to the artwork, including pictures, video clips and her magnificent live shows. Accordingly, she co-produced “Before The Dinosaurs” in Los Angeles with star-producer David Jost (Lady Gaga, Limp Bizkit, Keri Hilson, Tokio Hotel) and Grammy-winning producer Rick Nowels (Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Dido, Jewel, Colbie Caillat).

“Progressive pop poetry” is how Aura describes her sound, a sound that forces listeners’ ears and brains wide open when they hear her inspired voice and the untroubled play on words, harmonies and melodies that characterise her songs.

“I feel more naked presenting my songs than being naked in a photo,” Aura remarks and when you listen to her lyrics, you will know why.

“My first single, “Geronimo”′ is about the audacity of love and freedom” says Aura. Through the lens of music “Geronimo” invites listeners to re-examine the constitution of pop art in the 21st century.

“I started writing songs when I was a child and I‘ve learned so much on this exciting journey leading me to where I am now, but I never lost my inner child or my emotions. My music is my baby – I want to see it grow up and develop! We all have to try to make the most of our time on earth. I want to make the impossible possible…

Even before breakfast!”
